Lessons, Opportunities, and Recitals

You may have a lot of questions about music lessons, including fees, and required practice time; hopefully this page will provide you with answers! In addition to weekly music lessons, other performance opportunities are available all year long. If you have other questions that aren't answered here, please contact Martha and she'll be happy to answer them for you.

LESSONS, POLICY AND FEES

Lessons are a half hour long, once a week. Martha is teaching in Suttons Bay on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Please call, text, or use our online form to schedule directly with Martha and find a day and time that will work for you.

If there is a scheduling conflict (doctor’s appointment, school or church function) then the lesson can be made up at a different time that same week. In the case of illness or tragedy, a lesson may be credited. You will be charged for any other missed lessons. Consistency of lessons and practice time is the key to your success.

The charge is $25 per half hour lesson, paid ahead month to month.  Usually that amounts to $100 per month. Please pay at the first lesson of each new month. Method books and materials will also need to be purchased; most are under $20.

If the local schools are closed due to snow, then lessons are also canceled. 

OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS

Martha is passionate about being involved in her Suttons Bay community, and she is often asked to have her students play at various events. Recently, Martha was a special guest teacher for an 8 week ukulele class with the Suttons Bay Fourth Graders! In the past, her students have participated in many events sponsored by local music clubs, arts councils, community players, community, church, schools, and more. Martha is currently the conductor and primary teacher of the Ukulele Orchestra of Suttons Bay and welcomes all to her Strum and Orchestra groups on Monday nights!

COFFEE HOUSE RECITALS

Martha’s Coffee-House Recitals are laid back and fun. Students sign up if they want to play, they will choose their own music. Usually about 90% of her roster sign up for these events!  There are two Coffee-House Recitals per year, one in the Spring and one in the Fall. Anyone may attend.
